After your birthday, compare your wishlist with what you actually received. Remove received and unwanted items from your current wishes, handle pending handovers separately and keep only things you still want. A reservation does not prove that a gift has arrived.
You can do this review on paper, in notes or in your wishlist. It concerns the celebration that has just ended, rather than planning your next birthday or a full year of goals.
Check whether handovers are finished
Use actual arrangements as your guide. If someone privately said they will give you a present later, do not make it available to others simply because the date has passed. If you have no information, do not guess who reserved it or ask every guest for a purchasing report.
Choose a quiet moment after the main handovers. Make a private working note with three columns: wish, known facts and next action. Giver names, addresses, tracking numbers and conversations do not belong in a public review.
Sort wishes by what you know
These are manual review categories, not Osanta button labels or automatic statuses.
| Known situation | Decision | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Gift received | Remove from current wishes unless another is wanted | Leaving it available out of habit |
| Later handover agreed | Clarify privately with the person involved | Encouraging a duplicate purchase |
| Not received and still wanted | Recheck model, details and link | Treating it as a guest's debt |
| No longer wanted or bought yourself | Remove from current wishes | Keeping it to preserve list length |
| Unclear situation | Defer the decision until clarified | Treating a reservation as receipt |
If you are not going to use the list for now, a short private note of remaining wishes is enough. You do not have to share a new version immediately.
Review in six steps
- Compare the list with gifts actually received. A voucher or ticket already handed over counts as received even if the experience happens later.
- Separate later handovers covered by personal arrangements.
- Ask of each remaining wish: do I still need it, do I have a substitute, and are the size and quantity still right?
- Clarify descriptions and open the links. The wishlist writing guide can help organise the details.
- Bring your current list into line with those decisions using the actions available on its screen. Do not assume automatic receipt detection or date-based archiving.
- Read it again. If the old link remains accessible, make sure the list does not suggest guests owe more gifts for the celebration that has passed.
An unclear reservation
Do not undo somebody's arrangement based on a guess. If a guest has contacted you about a late present, ask privately. If you cannot connect a reservation with a handover, keep the item out of fresh requests until clarified. A public list should never become a record of who failed to give something.
A short example
Imagine four wishes: a travel mug, a book, a pottery class and a desk lamp. The mug arrived, you bought the book yourself, the class is promised for later and the lamp is still needed.
Remove the mug and book from current requests. Keep the class as a private follow-up without inviting another purchase. Check the lamp's dimensions, connection requirements and link. You now have one clear current wish instead of four mixed entries. This is a hypothetical example, not an Osanta customer story.
The criteria in the practical gifts guide can help review what remains. There is no need to add filler.
Where Osanta helps
The birthday wishlist page presents one link, gift descriptions and available or taken items. It gathers current wishes in one place, but availability does not confirm delivery. The owner checks the actual outcome.
Open an existing list through “My lists”. The creation form starts a new list; it does not clean up the old one. Owners use email access, while guests can view and reserve without separate accounts. See the birthday wishlist overview for the broader process.
Final checklist
- Received and self-purchased items no longer appear as current requests.
- Later handovers are handled separately.
- Remaining wishes are still wanted.
- Details and links have been checked manually.
- Giver identities and messages stay private.
- The past birthday is not used to pressure guests.
- A new link or message is shared only when useful.
Preparing a birthday?
Collect wishes in one link so guests can see available gifts and avoid duplicates.
Questions on this topic
When should I review the list?
After the main handovers, once you know what was received. Handle personal arrangements for later gifts separately.
Does a reservation mean the gift was received?
No. It shows a choice, not proof of purchase, delivery or handover. Check what actually happened.
Should I remove every unreceived wish?
No. Keep wishes you still have after checking their details and links. An unreceived gift is not a guest's obligation.
Can the list be cleared automatically after the date?
This guide uses a manual review. It does not assume automatic received statuses, clearing or archiving.
Must I create a new list to update the old one?
No. Open an existing list through My lists. The birthday page's creation form makes a new list and does not perform the review.
