Make a wedding wishlist clear to guests who speak different languages

Один подарок — одна понятная карточка: два языка, точные параметры и согласованные варианты замены без путаницы в размерах.

✨ Quick step

Preparing a wedding?

Create a wedding wishlist so guests can choose useful gifts and reply about attendance.

An international wedding wishlist needs to describe the same gift clearly to guests who speak different languages. Keep one entry per wish, add short names in the languages your guests understand, and make the model, quantity and measurements identical in both versions.

You can prepare this in a simple note. Agree the details as a couple, translate the explanation, then ask a reader of the second language to check the meaning.

Choose the language and level of detail

Use a language most guests understand, adding a second version where it helps. If nobody can confidently review the wording, simplify it and ask a fluent speaker or translator to check.

DetailWhat to write
NameA plain description in both languages
Brand and modelOriginal spelling and manufacturer reference when the exact version matters
MeasurementsNumbers, units and order, such as width × length
QuantityNumber of individual pieces and contents of a set
ColourThe specific option where it matters
AlternativesWhich features are fixed and which may change

A letter size without an identified size chart leaves room for error. Do not translate model codes or replace them with similar store names. The wedding gift description guide covers the general structure of an entry.

Prepare the entry in five steps

  1. Write one source version stating the item, quantity and essential features.
  2. Copy any brand, model and manufacturer reference exactly.
  3. Put the second-language description below the first. Compare every number and unit.
  4. Add one link to the chosen product version, if applicable, and open it to check the match.
  5. Ask a second-language reader to explain what they would buy. Resolve any difference before sharing.

Example: two pillowcases, not two sets

This is wording guidance, not a product recommendation:

> Two pillowcases / Deux taies d'oreiller > Quantity: 2 individual pillowcases, no pillows included. > Quantité : 2 taies individuelles, sans oreillers. > Size of each: width 50 cm × length 70 cm. > Dimensions de chaque taie : largeur 50 cm × longueur 70 cm. > Colour: white. Another brand is fine; a different size is not. > Couleur : blanc. Une autre marque convient, mais pas une autre taille.

Both versions belong in the same entry. Separate language entries could look like two different wishes.

Label units and currency clearly

Place units beside measurements. If you add a second measurement system, verify it against the product specifications and label both systems. Do not expect a guest to infer a size chart or convert the figures.

If the text mentions a price, use an unambiguous currency code such as EUR or USD. This is information you provide, not a promise of currency conversion, a current price or payment processing.

Keep the checked descriptions together

A shared working table can help you review wording. For a guest-facing list, the Osanta wedding page offers one link for wishes, including linked products and ideas without store links. Owner access starts with email; guests can open the page without registering.

The couple prepares the bilingual text manually. This workflow does not rely on automatic translation, currency conversion, international payments or delivery. For timing and handover questions, see the guide for guests in different cities. Keep home addresses and personal contacts out of public descriptions.

Before you share

  • Each wish has one entry.
  • Model, quantity, dimensions and set contents agree in both versions.
  • Units and measurement order are clear.
  • Essential details and acceptable alternatives are distinct.
  • The link opens the intended option.
  • A reader of the second language understands the intended item.
  • The wording makes gifting optional.

Questions on this topic

Do we need separate lists for each language?

One current list with bilingual descriptions usually makes the same set of wishes clearer. Duplicate language entries can look like separate requests.

Should we translate the model name?

Translate explanatory text, but keep the original brand, model code and manufacturer reference so guests can identify the exact version.

How should we write measurements?

Include numbers, units and measurement order. Add another system only after checking the product specifications.

Does this workflow use automatic translation?

No. The couple prepares and checks both language versions manually. It does not assume currency conversion, international payments or delivery either.

Must guests register to open the wishlist?

The public Osanta wedding page says guests can open it without registering. Owner access starts with email.
